Want to know what goes on backstage for the models at New York Fashion Week? If these candid snaps captured by famous backstage photographer Sonny Vandevelde (who captured the antics at Australian Fashion Week for GRAZIA back in May) and Andrew Swartz are anything to go by, it’s been way more fun and far less frantic than we’ve previously witnessed – at the Zimmermann show, at least.

Still, what other mood could models channel when wearing the whimsical and pretty pieces shown this weekend at the Australian brand’s much-feted Spring/Summer 2017 show. Australian models Astrid Holler and the floss-haired Fernanda Ly brought some local star appeal to the runway, while accents like bold ear cuffs and pirate boots added attitude to the girlie frill-fest.

Out front, Belgian it-model Hanne Gabby Odiele opened the show titled Stranded for an audience that boasted a swag of Aussie fashion stars including Shanina Shaik, Nicole Trunfio, Bridget Malcolm, Gabby Westbrook-Patrick, Sarah Ellen, Brooke Testoni and Jessie Bush. Still, it’s these backstage pictures that really capture the spirit of the collection, along with plenty of the goings on (and a few luscious fabric close-ups) before and just seconds after the serious catwalk action. We’d be happy castaways if stranded on an island looking like this…
