Who could have imagined way back in 2007, when their relationship on The Hills caused one of the biggest reality TV feuds of all time, that a decade later Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt would be about to become parents?

But that’s exactly what the couple, known affectionately as Speidi, have revealed today on the cover of Us Weekly: Heidi and Spencer are having a baby.

Heidi, 30 (who now goes by Pratt) and Spencer, 33, were once known for starting rumours, causing trouble and posing for outrageously forced paparazzi photoshoots, but now the reality TV couple are getting clued up on parenting.

“I have never been more excited,” Heidi told the magazine. “The reality is sinking in that we are going to have a child! I’ve read every pregnancy book, and now I realise I don’t know anything.”

Heidi said she’s been ready to have a baby for years, but the timing has never been right.

“One thing after another came up,” she said. “We had work obligations, like Celebrity Big Brother in the U.K., which I did not want to be pregnant for.

“I’m actually really thankful we waited. I thought I was ready in my twenties, but with everything we had going on, it just wouldn’t have been a good situation for us.”

It’s not completely clear what else aside from Celebrity Big Brother (and an appearance on Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars) has kept the pair so busy since The Hills ended in 2010. The couple confessed to People last year that they blew the fortune they received for starring on The Hills – believed to be around US $10 million – on designer clothes, security guards and lavish trips. They now live in a Santa Barbara, California home owned by Pratt’s parents, and he sells crystals online.

“We make most of our income from reality shows,” Heidi told People.

In that case, it probably won’t be long after the birth of their child that we’ll be seeing those baby photos.
