Blossoming style savant Zendaya has proven she’s the ultimate fashion chameleon, whether it’s polished Vuitton perfection at Paris Fashion Week (read her story about that look here), the full red carpet glam or straight-up street realness in Beyonce’s Lemonade. At only 19, she’s unafraid to take on the role of fashion risk-taker, but her true forte lies in her ability to spin classic menswear-style suiting on its head and bring a super modern edge to tailoring. Here are seven times the Something New singer worked a suit better than the boys.

1. When she literally owned glamour in a grey tuxedo. At the ACLU SoCal Bill of Rights dinner (same, I absolutely attended similar functions as a teen) Zendaya wore a three-piece tuxedo suit by new designer Kayat. The pale grey palette and addition of a feminine camisole amp it from gender neutral to ladylike.

2. When she channelled Bowie at the Grammys. Though she claims it wasn’t a direct reference to the icon’s passing, Zendaya did deliver the ultimate Ziggy Stardust (the original androgyne) tribute in a double-breasted D’Squared power suit teamed with a blonde mullet taking an otherwise average look to dizzying heights of originality.
