While haute couture fashion week is a time for designers to showcase their most intricate, embellished and often avant-garde looks – it’s also a chance for hair and make-up artists to flex their own creative muscles. Backstage at Elie Saab, make-up artist, Tom Pechaux and hairstylist Orlando Pita did just that. Here are the top three beauty lessons we clocked from the show that we can’t wait to use IRL.

#1 When it comes to eyeliner, black can be boring
In a nod to Egypt in the Forties and Sixties, Pecheaux painted precise winged liner along the model’s top lashes. “But I wanted an eyeliner that was a little bit more than black eyeliner, so I decided to go for duo eyeliner,” he told WWD, explaining that he used navy along the lash line and the pitch black to create the flick.

#2 Headbands are back
Metal or material, the model’s headbands followed through on the royal princess vibes dictating Saab’s collection. Paired against soft, glossy waves, which Pita created using a combination of toning and blow-drying for a polished finish.

#3 Statement earrings are here to stay
And as Pita proved, the best hair to pair with some shoulder-grazing earrings is a clean middle part and the double hair tuck. “This couture is very embroidered, very charged up. So I think it’s better just to keep the girl minimal,” he told WWD.
