At GRAZIA, we’re quite the rebellious folk. Give us a rule, and we usually like to break it. Renegades we may be, when it comes to beauty, however, there are a few beauty rules which should be stuck to – scrupulously. When it comes to your skin, the following are non-negotiable:

Always apply serum + moisturiser to your neck (and décolleté)
You may know to take your moisturiser down to your neck, but your cream + serum combo should also travel as far south as your décolleté. This area, particularly the skin between the breast, is prone to sagging and aging, so slather on both serum and moisturiser – day and night for the truly sun-damaged – for a wholly hydrated chest.

Wear sunscreen religiously
This may be a given, but many skip this step, particularly when the sun isn’t out. Hate that tacky, sticky feeling of SPF? Opt for a sheer, oil-free variety that feels like next-to-nothing when applied, even a light veil of SPF will halt aging in its sun-filled tracks.

Always double cleanse
Ask any model or beauty expert, and the secret to a clear complexion is a double cleanse. Go in first with a gentle exfoliator or facial wipe, then use a foaming or cream-based cleanser. Pro tip: keep both cleansers of choice in the shower so you have no excuse to skimp thou holy cleansing commandment.

Don’t Sleep in your makeup
A beauty doctrine we hear on repeat, even though Kim Kardashian may sleep in her makeup, you shouldn’t: it’s one of the biggest culprits of clogged skin and break-outs (and most of us don’t have access to the team and treatments she does, if we do). If the day has taken its toll and the mere thought of washing your face is too much to bear (trust us, we get it), have a packet of cleansing wipes next to your bed and give your face a quick once-over before you hit the sack. A quick SOS for your skin (and pillowcase).

You do you
As corny it may sound, if something doesn’t work for you, don’t do it. Just because an expert or celebrity promotes a new cream laden with actives, or plugs a new laser, doesn’t mean it will work for you (or work at all). By all means, try things once, but don’t be beauty bullied – every single person has different skin; lather, smother and spritz accordingly.
