If anyone knows good skin, it’s Mia Hawkswell. The celebrity makeup artist has not only fine-tuned the art of foundation, but knows how to make coverage go the distance (v. important in the selfie era). So, say after a Spritz or two, you still look flawless and fabulous and ready to go viral – no filter required. So how does one prevent the ill-fated cake face and stay filter-worthy all day long?

From expert priming to perfect painting, Mia shares her five top tips for a photo(shop) finish – without the help of Clarendon and friends.

A little Mia magic on model Annabella Barber

1/ Prepare skin adequately… Hydration and prime. Allow products to absorb before applying the following step. A light mist of Revlon PhotoReady Prep, Set, Refresh Mist preps the skin beautifully.

2/ Apply REVLON Insta-filter foundation in small amounts on areas of face. Try the middle of forehead, and each cheek plane. Then go back and buff in, using a mixture of circular motions and dabbing. The circular motions will move the foundation, while dabbing the foundation will give you a beautiful flawless ‘photoshop’ finish.

3/ From here you’ll be able to see where you need more coverage. Add a little more in that area in the same way as Step 2. Dabbing will concentrate the foundation for more coverage. I like to apply in this way to avoid using too much product, resulting in a ‘makeup / product-heavy finish ‘

4/ allow foundation to sit for a bit, buff again if needed, SET... This is such an important step to finalise your look for longevity and freshness.

5/ Find your light! Catch the natural daylight to take your best selfie, ever! Get up close to the window and turn till your cheek catches the light.
