Bizarrely “smizing” as she walked through the media circus outside a Boston court today, Lori Loughlin didn’t look like a woman facing up to 20 years behind bars. The former Full House actress and her husband Mossimo Giannulli faced a federal hearing today – along with other wealthy parents including fellow actress Felicity Huffman – relating to charges in the college bribery scandal.

It is alleged Loughlin and Giannulli paid $500 000 to get their daughters admitted as crew coxswains to the University of Southern California, even though it’s widely believed neither girl had ever even been in a row boat. Authorities have said the couple helped create fake profiles for their daughters by having them pose on rowing machines.

According to Page Six, Loughlin smiled wide and shook the hands of the four federal prosectors in the court room.

The couple were not asked to enter a plea today.

Outside the court, there were a mix of reactions to Loughlin’s presence. Some held signs asking for her to pay their college fees while others shouted “We love you Lori!”

Fifty people have so far been charged in what is the biggest college admissions scheme ever prosecuted in the US. All wealthy, these parents proved the system is stacked to favour the rich as they bribed coaches and administrators to get their children into some of the most selective universities in the county like Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and the aforementioned USC. In Huffman’s case, she allegedly paid $15 000 to have her daughter’s SAT exam doctored to boost the score by 400 points.

Loughlin’s television show let her go the day after her arrest. When Calls The Heart on the Hallmark channel is having a “creative hiatus” to work out where the script now goes without her.

More to come.
