Perth-based fashion Beige Renegade blogger Jiawa Liu, who – on top of having a beautiful minimalist visual aesthetic – is a lawyer, talks us through photos (by Kurt Ji of Bloggers Boyfriend) of a full day at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016.

8am: Getting ready for the day Amongst arranging travel to Sydney, accommodation and organising my busy schedule, deciding what to wear to Fashion Week is always an important consideration. Today I’m wearing a Bally leather jacket and skirt, paired with an Alexander Wang bag and, for the all-important comfort shoe, Acne Studios boots. With so much running around during the day, travelling light is an art. I make sure I have all the essentials, including my camera, phone, media pass and my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 – it’s so lightweight that I can just casually tuck it under one arm and forget I’m carrying it. I love this special edition grey fabric Alcantara cover, too.

9am – Arriving at the MBFWA venue All of the media arrives at Carriageworks, the main venue for Australian Fashion Week, early in the morning. Photographers are shooting backstage, street style photographers await the first guest arrivals and television crews interview designers and the people around them.

1pm – Waiting front row at Bec & BRidge Resort 2017 The show is about to start, everyone files inside and the anticipation builds as we take our seats. Finally, the lights dim, the music starts and the show begins. As the models walk down the runway, I wish I had more hands as I switch between my camera and phone to shoot the looks as well as post snippets on social media.

2pm – Finally a break between shows to blog Between shows, I check into the onsite tearoom, whip out my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and start on some editing and drafting. With a little time on my hands, I run back to my hotel to freshen up and change my outfit.

4pm – Backstage with the action Before the next show starts, I duck backstage to capture what’s happening behind the scenes. Hair, make-up and last minute rehearsals are a mad rush and the energy is incredible. My skirt and jacket here are Bally, my bag Alexander Wang.

5pm – A little mingling People from all parts of the Australian fashion industry are gathered in one place for a week, so one of the best things about Australian Fashion Week is being able to meet so many interesting people and catch up with friends from across the country.
