Put Elsa Hosk in a paper bag and she’d likely look like a dreamboat, but in this particular outfit she looks really, really good. Sure, a swimsuit and sunglass is fashion’s most predictable and practised summer routine. We do it day in day out when the hot weather hits, it’s truly the only way to beach. But add a saddle bag and the look goes from banal to brilliant in a hot flash.

Slinging Christian Dior’s iconic Saddle Bag (from John Galliano’s 2004 Rasta collection) alongside her Solid and Striped swimsuit, Hosk put a whole new spin on beachwear, prompting us to try a shoulder bag at the beach. While a straw-like basket will always hold a place in our summer heart, an on-trend ‘90s shoulder bag is just the thing to take your seaside style up a notch (fashion doesn’t always have to be practical, right?).

She’s also channelling another one of our favourite neo-nostalgic trends – the colour-tinted lens – wearing a pair of oversized sunglasses in translucent yellow. A style which rose to fame in the noughties (with both Paris Hilton and Britney Spears big fans), the coloured lens returns with newfound fervour and new shapes (like this rimless pair from Longchamp we’re quietly eyeing off). So for a little update on the tried and true, add a saddle bag to your seaside style and channel Elsa Hosk’s retro beach vibes.
