After months of casting rumours have floated names like endearing squinter Dave Franco and the terminally insufferable Ansel Elgort, the role of young Han Solo in a standalone Star Wars prequel based on the character has finally been cast.

Hail, Caesar! breakout Alden Ehrenreich has reportedly landed the iconic role first made famous by Harrison Ford in the original trilogy, beating out other contenders like Kingsman’s Taron Egerton and Transformers‘ Jack Reynor.

According to a breaking report from Deadline, Ehrenreich, 26, is currently negotiating to seal the deal having been a frontrunner for the role for weeks, based on the strength of his screen tests. No details have emerged regarding the prequel’s plot (it’s being kept so under wraps that it’s referred to, rather obviously,  as Project Red Cup).

Directed by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the standalone Han Solo film comes out May 25, 2018. In the interim, familiarise yourself with Ehrenreich’s knack for stealing scenes in this standout clip from Hail, Caesar!

To be honest, it’s the only part of that whole movie worth watching.
