Given the very special relationship Alicia Vikander shares with Louis Vuitton – she’s fronted its global advertising recently – and friendship she shares with its designer Nicolas Ghesquiere, her absence at the brand’s Paris Fashion Week show yesterday left industry observers puzzled. Had the relationship soured? Was she aligning herself with a new brand?

The answer is far from it. Rather, Vikander was fulfilling her commitments as the star of the new Tomb Raider movie at its star-studded London premiere, a poignant moment given both Vikander and her character Lara Croft hark from the city.

And to make the moment even sweeter, she wore Louis Vuitton. The 29-year-old posed for photographers and signed autographs on the red carpet in a floor-length column dress by the French luxury house that was custom made (so no, you couldn’t buy it, even if you had considerable funds available).

Vikander’s hair – a long rope ponytail sectioned with multiple elastics by London-based celebrity stylist George Northwood – was more in keeping with her adventurous movie character than the sweet floral gown.

Even her subtle makeup by Kelly Cornwell had a touch of the wild. Though peachy and natural from a distance, a dash of red above her winged eyeliner was a wild note. (On her Instagram, Cornwell describes it as “a double flick with an undertone of red”.)

It’s the second time this week she’s appeared on the red carpet in Vuitton – the ruffle-sleeve lilac dress she wore at the Berlin premiere several days ago was also by the brand.

Diamond-encrusted Dauphin jewellery was the perfect complement to her new wedding band and engagement ring

Like her London look, it was pulled together by her usual stylist Victoria Sekrier, who added diamond-encrusted Dauphin jewellery as a finishing touch that paired perfectly with the actresses’ brand new wedding band and solitaire diamond engagement ring.

For the record, new husband Michael Fassbender also attended, in an on-trend grey checked suit no less, but arrived separately to his wife to let her shine. It seems fashion has a new stylish couple to set goals against, even if photos of them together are still frustratingly hard to come by.
