Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender met on the set of The Light Between Two Oceans, a dramatic film set for release later this year about an Australian lighthouse keeper (Fassbender) and his wife (Vikander) who find a baby in a boat and decide to raise it as their own.

Life imitated art when the co-stars started dating, but they soon took a break (reportedly because of work commitments keeping them apart), however a kiss at the Oscars in February as she accepted the award for Best Actress indicated things were back on track.

While he was notably tetchy when it came to talking about his relationship during a promotional tour of Australia in May, it seems the couple are ready to acknowledge their love in a public forum.  At least in the context of their roles opposite each other in the Derek Cianfrance film, as they discussed in an interview with Etalk.

“I remember on the first day we actually worked we stepped out and you said ‘Give me something new, give me something new,'” Alicia said as Michael smiled at her. “And that kind of just set the terms … of always trying to find a new door that was going to lead us down a new path.”

Fassbender added that the best on-screen chemistry always happens when “you’re pushing each other and supporting each other all the way, and that’s pretty much what we did.”

The couple’s chemistry was evident throughout the interview, with Michael teasing Alicia about her terrible handwriting and playfully touching her on the arm.

The actor couple are notoriously private, so this might be as much public affection as we from them for now – until The Light Between Two Oceans hits cinemas in September.
