Mean Girls actor Amanda Seyfried is no stranger to the luxury style world, but to keen-eyed fashion observers it appears she’s made a major new-girl faux pas this week.
The first rule of fashion club is: stay loyal to your tribe – and right now, Seyfried’s a newly adopted member of Prada’s extended family. Yesterday, Miu Miu announced the star as front-woman of its beautiful Autumn 2016 campaign with the following pic on Instagram, captioned: “Found Narratives: Amanda Seyfried leads an enigmatic cast of characters through a weekend of playful reverie, in @alasdairmclellan’s debut campaign for Miu Miu.”

Seyfried herself posted another pic from the campaign series shot by Brit photographer Alasdair McLellan (the same man who filmed Kendall, Sara and Taylor in this Coach x Disney film) at the English mansion built for Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole.

So far, so perfect – so how does the first rule of fashion tribes kick matter in this instance? This cute pic taken of Seyfried and her dog walking into a photographic studio in New York just 24 hours before the Miu Miu announcement this week serves as a hint…

What Miu Miu will think of its newly anointed ambassador carrying a very visible Givenchy Floral Nightingale tote is anyone’s guess, given its correct etiquette (and sometimes even a contractual obligation) for stars engaged by a brand to steer clear of its same-category competitors in public.
But on this occasion, the actress could argue she has a legit excuse, given she’s also the face of Givenchy fragrance Live Irrésistible and has been part of that brand’s extended beauty family for years.
However, should Seyfried feel the urge to make accessory amends, there’s no shortage of options on offer this season from Miu Miu – like the signature bucket or top handle styles this season – although nothing with such an out-there print. We’d be more than happy to mind that Floral Nightingale for her until further notice…
