Given she’s about to call Australia home – for a short while at least – it’s especially poignant Amber Heard hit the pre-Globes party circuit in this dress detailed with one of our favourite native icons and a banksia-style print.

The US-born star of Magic Mike XXL and The Danish Girl will be based in Queensland from May onward while she films Aquaman with Willem Dafoe and Jason Momoa (aka Kahl Drogo and Mr Lisa Bonet).

Bearing in mind it’s the same place that Pistol and Boo smuggling fiasco landed her in deep legal excretive with now ex-husband Johnny Depp, you can’t blame Heard for offering a sartorial sign of contrition last Saturday while dining with a group of high profile women for a W Magazine It Girls luncheon in LA.

Despite the fact it showcases Australia’s unofficial animal mascot, the dress (or its kitsch motif at least) is actually the handiwork of New Zealand-born, London-based artist Francis Uprichard, who was tapped by Peter Pilotto to help create a special collection supported by American Express and knitted into his Spring/Summer 2017 runway show. The capsule range is currently on sale at Matches Fashion and also features bleached denim pieces and garishly bright knits.

While Heard’s nineties-inspired halter-neck dress was first appeared on the Peter Pilotto SS17 catwalk with bejewelled flats, but she chose to accessorise with T-bar stilettos at this lunch hosted by legendary W Magazine editor Stefano Tonchi, widely regarded a lead-up lunch for the 74th Annual Golden Globes.

Heard had some still competition in the lunches’ best dressed stakes (Jourdan Dunn was a lesson in glamorous power dressing), but we think she won with a narrow margin. Come on down Amber. All’s forgiven.
