Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after 12 years together.

“This decision was made for the health of the family,” attorney Robert Offer said in a statement obtained by Reuters.

“She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”

TMZ reports that Angelina filed the court documents on Monday citing irreconcilable differences and is asking for sole physical custody of the couple’s six children with only visitation rights for Brad – not joint custody.

A source tells the website that the actress is “extremely upset” with her husband’s parenting style, and has concerns about his consumption of alcohol and marijuana, as well as alleged “anger issues”.

Meanwhile Page Six alleges that that Angelina found out through a private investigator that Brad had been unfaithful to her with his Five Seconds Of Silence co-star Marion Cotillard over months of filming in London earlier this year, as well as with prostitutes.

“He’s in the throes of some insane midlife crisis, and Angie is fed up,’’ a source said. “She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw.”

Apparently the pair are increasingly moving in different directions, with Angelina wanting to leave Hollywood behind in favour of humanitarian work, while Brad still enjoys the party lifestyle in Los Angeles.

Page Six also reports that their French chateau is on the market.

Jolie, 41, is not asking for spousal support, and is being represented by Laura Wasser, the lawyer that represented Johnny Depp in his divorce from Amber Heard.

Angelina and Brad, 52, started dating after filming 2004 movie Mr And Mrs Smith together, and went public after he announced his divorce from Jennifer Aniston.

They married in 2014 and have six children together: Maddox, who Jolie adopted before they met, as well as Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, Pax and Knox.

Just last year Brad and Angelina played a couple trying to repair their marriage in film By The Sea, which Jolie also wrote and directed. Upon the film’s release, she spoke of how making the movie took a toll on their relationship

“It was our way of testing ourselves. We knew that if we could get through this, we’d come out even stronger and happier. And we did.

“We’ve always liked putting ourselves through challenges, even though it was maybe a little more dangerous for us as a couple.

“I don’t think we want to go through it again though.”

It’s Angelina’s third divorce after previous marriages to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
