An insider has told Page Six there is tension between Meghan Markle and Priyanka Chopra after the Duchess of Sussex couldn’t make it to her best friend’s wedding to musician Nick Jonas in India in December.
According to the publication, Markle couldn’t attend the wedding because of her pregnancy leaving Chopra “crushed”. “Their friendship is over unless Meghan apologises,” said one source. “Priyanka is a huge international star with a tremendous social media following. She is probably more famous worldwide than Meghan is. She feels Meghan didn’t respect her, and didn’t respect their friendship.”
Chopra did not attend Markle’s baby shower in New York last week reportedly saying she was “bogged down” in Los Angeles in meetings. Chopra and Jonas had visited the royals at their Cotswolds country home in July 2018.
Another close source was very quick to shut this rumour down saying there was no problem between the women. Could this be another sensational headline like Meghan versus Kate? Probably. But we have to ask the question: When you do enter the Royal family, does that mean you can no longer attend social engagements like best friend’s international weddings? If a Duchess is allowed to travel to New York City for a baby shower…
The two women met in 2016 at a work event. “Priyanka is unbelievable,” Markle told The Press Trust Of India that same year. “She has become a really good friend. ELLE Magazine in the US hosted a dinner celebrating Women in TV, and we met that night – turns out she really likes Suits…You know when you meet someone and you just click? It was just an easy, natural progression. We’ve managed to keep in touch via email and text, and try to see each other whenever we’re both in the same town.”
