When Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson got engaged after mere weeks of dating, it came as a shock.

Saturday Night Live star Davidson, 24, played up the whirlwind element of their relationship story in an interview with this week GQ, saying he wanted to marry the No Tears Left To Cry singer from the day they met.

“The universe works in strange ways,” he said. “All I know is that I’m the luckiest guy in the world. The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow’”.

“She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favorite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick.’ ”

But their lightning-fast love is starting to make more sense after Ariana, 25, appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon this week. She admitted she fell for him when they first met when she appeared on SNL more than two years ago.

“We never exchanged numbers or anything. We weren’t even friends for the longest time,” she said, adding she “had the biggest crush in the world on him the whole time—like forever.”

“I jokingly said to my tour manager—I was like, ‘I’m marrying him 100 percent’. I was like, ‘I’m literally marrying him.'”

So while the world struggled to catch up, it’s clear these two have known for a while. Not so fast after all.
