Since hitting the scene in music scene in 2013 with The Way (which she recorded with now boyfriend Mac Miller), Grande has done a very good job at shaking her Nickelodeon image. Chances are, if you were to ask your boyfriend about the pint-sized popstar – the one with the famous feverishly flicking lashes – he’ll probably ask you if she was indeed the one with the accurate AF celebrity impersonations on Saturday Night Live in March 2016 (the Celine Dion parody a close second only to Jennifer Lawrence).

But did any of you ever scroll through your feed and wonder when Grande would finally go from “cutesy” to Queen?

Or at least look old enough for us to watch her suggestive music videos? Yes, it seemed for a while there the singer was positively teenaged; a dimple-bearing freshman that seemed to never quite graduate. Was it her height? Was it her hair? Was it that we only were viewing her from her left side? Or was it the fact she is actually as vocally aerobic as Mariah that her voice was of age but she wasn’t? The mind boggles.

Today though, in a very important and scientific pictorial examination, I’m going to show you a series of images – milestones if you will – for you and I to pinpoint the exact moment in time that Grande became a dangerous woman.

January 2014: This is purely an image for your background knowledge. Because your investigative mind needs to understand where the now-dangerous woman originated and the period in which we are placing this investigation. Dressed in an overwhelming $9000 Dolce and Gabbana dress to the Grammys, the singer made a sound effort at making herself appear more mature. Unfortunately Grande checked her Twitter account prior to hitting the carpet where fans confirmed what Grande already really knew: She didn’t look great. And by that, we mean her hair didn’t look great, the subject of the online criticisms.

March 2014: Potentially a reaction to her Grammy’s breakdown, Grande lets out her hair at the 27th Annual Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Blaming her Grammy’s hairstyle on the fact she spent four years dying it red on her TV shows

April 2014: Fast forward to when you, the investigator, became familiar with Grande and her incredible vocal range. Problem featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea debuted, the first single from her album My Everything. Here was this brazen, albeit at times brash, pop statement that even Iggy had questioned pre-recording. “Even though I thought she was amazing, I thought she was much younger than she is,” explained Iggy. “When I realised that she was so close to my age, I was like, ‘Wait, you’re an adult!’” Unfortunately though on stage, Iggy’s very concern was magnified. Iggy stands at 178cm to Grande’s 153cm, the rapper positively dwarfing the 80s mod-clad singer. (Sidenote: what is Iggy wearing?) (Second sidenote: there is so much hair on this stage right now).

July 2014: Next to Jessie J who arguably has one of the best voices to come out of the UK, Grande holds her own, even despite her diminutive status. Actually, purely based on this outfit, lets take it to another performance.

Firstly, just wow. The vocals are like no other and Grande makes them look effortless. Secondly, she may still be walking the “cutsey” line, but she’s gained some serious street cred with friend, and super dangerous Nicki Minaj (just ask Miley!).

September 2014: The cat ears are becoming a thing not only at the iHeartRadio awards as pictured here but in general life. Are you a fan of the feline trend?

December 2014: Off the back of her album success – and now with her hit single Break Free breaking records, Grande is such hot property that Victoria Secret’s senior creative Ed Razek has invited her to perform at the VS show at Earl’s Court in London. This is the moment, this will be the moment Grande will debut a sexy grown-up look.

Sigh, it’s not. Dressed in a rainbow mini skirt, the singer looked young, made even more apparent by her reaction to being hit by Elsa Hosk’s wing. While we say hurrah to Ed Razek for the casting, we say a double hurrah for placing Grande as the performer of the PINK youthful range (the segment is used as the new stomping ground for first-time VS models) because as you can see, she’s just not ready for a performance of Taylor Swift proportions just yet.

March 2015: Ariana appears on the Jimmy Kimmel show. This date is important because it is one of the last visible sightings of the side fringe. Grande also gained a new audience with her Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion impressions. A very, very impressed audience and a performance Jimmy Kimmel was more than afraid to compete against.

July 2015: You know how this story goes. Grande was caught licking donuts and saying she hates America. The singer actually becomes a real-life dangerous woman and a simultaneous threat to American security.

September 2015: Grande takes hair out on Instagram and it’s everything! We’re having a moment here as she looks as fierce and less-childlike than ever before. But I’m not convinced this is THE moment. Are you?

October 2015: “We’ll start with you though”, Grande flawlessly calls out a radio announcer in the US for being sexist. And rightfully so.

April 2016: Universal Music release the cover art for Dangerous Woman. OK, what is that? Really. The cat ears are back bigger and all encompassing in rabbit-form. Is it just me or have we stepped back six months here? Tell me, are we feeling a futuristic/dominatrix Anastasia Steel vibe here or is it an attempted revival of 2009’s Louis Vuitton and Maison Michel black lace trend?

April 2016: Universal Music release the music video for Dangerous Woman along with some equally dangerous statistics: 22 million singles sold worldwide, three million albums, two million streams on Spotify every day and 3.3 billion VEVO streams. It’s followed up closely by Into You. The dangerous woman has arrived.
