Ariana Grande has had one hell of a week, to say the least. Today she’s celebrating an impressive five MTV Video Music Award nominations – including Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for Into You – but it’s been a dramatic few days, starting off with her name being mentioned in a WikiLeaks leak.

It turns out the 23-year-old cost herself a performance in front of Barack Obama at the White House gala last year after TMZ published a video of her licking a doughnut that wasn’t hers in a cafe and muttering “I hate America”. In one of thousands of Democratic National Committee (Hilary Clinton’s political party) emails published by WikiLeaks this week, DNC finance chair Zachary Allen said Ariana was not an option for a performer at the event given #donutgate.

“Ariana Butera-video caught her licking other peoples’ donuts while saying she hates America,” the DNC’s deputy compliance director wrote. “Republican Congressman used this video and said it was a double standard that liberals were not upset with her like they are with Trump who criticized Mexicans; cursed out a person on Twitter after that person used an offensive word towards her brother.”

Awkward, but ultimately not devastating for the Dangerous Woman singer. Which appears to be how she feels about her break-up from boyfriend of about a year, Ricky Alvarez – a source confirmed the split to E News!, saying:

“She broke up with him. He didn’t cheat or anything, they just found it difficult to make it work. They are still friends though.”

If Ariana is trying to seem fine about the break-up, she’s doing a good job. She tweeted “Change is f*cking fantastic” and shared a photo of herself with a new haircut (a sign of a woman newly single if there ever was one). She’s also been playing Pokemon Go – everyone going through a break-up needs a distraction.

But she no doubt put all that behind her on Wednesday when she was nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards. It’s an impressive effort for someone so early on in her career, given Adele got eight and Kanye West two. Still, she’s humble.

“It’s an honor to be nominated for 5 VMAs alongside so many of my favorite artists,” she wrote on Instagram. “A surreal thing to be in such incredible company.”

Amazing what a week can do, isn’t it?
