It says a lot about Ariana Grande’s power and influence that even though she pulled out of attending the Grammy Awards, we’re still talking about her Grammys dress.

Ariana set Instagram alight during the Grammys broadcast, posting pictures of the Zac Posen gown she’d planned to wear.

“When @zacposen makes u a custom gown it doesn’t matter if you’re singing or not,” she captioned one of several posts about the poof-y lilac dress.

Now, fans have pointed out the heart-warming meaning behind the number – or, if unintentional, the spooky coincidence.

The look appeared to be inspired by Cinderella, which is the name of a song her late ex Mac Miller wrote about the No Tears Left To Cry singer.

“Daddy told you, better bring your ass home/ Cinderella better get your ass home” Miller raps on the track, and later, “Ooh Cinderella don’t you run out of time/ It feels like you’ve been taking all day/ Wherever you came from, wherever you going/ I promise I’m not far behind.”

Ariana and Mac were together for more than two years, and had been broken up less than six months when he died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 26 in September.

Miller would almost certainly have been at the Grammys if he was still alive today – he was nominated for Best Rap Album for Swimming, his first ever Grammys nod.

He lost to Cardi B, which saw Ariana tweet and delete some thoughts, mainly that Miller’s parents had been invited to the ceremony only to see their late son lose (she later apologised on Instagram for being “emotional” and “up and down”).

Thank U, Next year, Grammys.
