Stamping your superheroine’s signature costume with the American flag and its many, many stars sends a pretty strong message on which country wants to own her. Funny then that Wonder Woman has been such an international icon for decades, regardless of the fairly legitimate US parentage. Australians love her, Europeans draw inspiration from her and now an Israeli actress (Gal Gado) plays her in the DC Comic movie instalments.

Case in point: the latest capsule collection by Italian super-brand Valentino, labelled with the commercially golden moniker, Wonder Woman Valentino. The name may be far from subtle, and nor are the stars emblazoned over much of the collection, but references to the superhero (apart from a couple of visually branded tees clearly created for Insta-branding) are elegantly understated.

Equally international but even more cool is that Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli tapped Roman street artist Flavio Solo (real name, rockstar-worthy) to create artwork for the collection and live-paint an incredible murals in three of the brand’s biggest flagship stores – Rome, Milan and New York. If you happen to be in any of those three spots in the next few weeks, take advantage of the selfie-background wonder-gift.

Not travelling? Check out this fast time-lapse vid of Solo (below) installing his Wonder Woman Valentino mural in the Valentino 5th Avenue Store window (which he dedicated to his mum. Awww)…
