Fashion’s love affair with nostalgic early 1980s style shows no sign of cooling, especially at Swiss luxury house Bally. Its Spring/Summer 2018 campaign shot by art-inspired fashion photographer (and occasional fabric print collaborator) Colin Dodgson is the perfect way to showcase a collection that’s a little bit sporty, a little bit geek-pretty and a whole lotta L.I.T.

Anyone familiar with Dodgson’s prolific work could spot these shots as his from a distance. Retro-look grainy, sepia-tinged images of kooky chic stuff and subjects are his typical MO. Much like the clothes, these images are the stuff of tan, taupe and neutral tone dreams.

What makes the photographs sizzlingly modern is the new collection of men’s and women’s bags, shoes and ready-to-wear made with modern techniques and fabrication, but inspired by the looks of the 1970s and 80s.

(Case in point: the B-print silk pussy-bow blouse in the official campaign video below. I swear I remember my incredibly elegant, former-model grandmother wearing something similar when I was very young. Wish now she’d passed them down to me. This look is the pinnacle of Spring 2018 shirt perfection.)

If you haven’t yet cottoned onto the return of Charlie’s Angels-style knee-high boots (three-inch heel minimum, mind you) then these should serve as a sartorial kick in the stirrup pants too. Obsessed? Shop the range in-store from January 30. Find your nearest Bally boutique here.
