Thankfully the trends are playing to your favour, with barely-there skin playing second fiddle to bolder-is-better, glitter-infused looks this past season. Of course pulling it off is made all the easier when you’re a prepubescent Eastern European model walking at her first Fashion Month. Or apparently also if you’re American singer songwriter, Jillian Banks, who tuned up to our shoot the day after an international flight looking unfairly clear-skinned and glowing. With her sophomore album The Altar set to enter summer’s most-played list, we asked the artist to work this season’s MVP beauty trends set to add some sparkle to your next night-out. Get lit.

Around this time of year we face quite the beauty conundrum. Just as the festive, end of year season approaches, so too does summer bringing with it hot days and humid nights. When the concept of packing on party make-up in the heat is about as appealing as a Moncler parka, priority is key. Meaning? Pick a statement eye or lip and pair it against barely-there skin that can breath in the heat.

Thankfully the trends are playing to your favour, with barely-there skin playing second fiddle to bolder-is-better, glitter-infused looks this past Spring/Summer 2017 season. For those of us who aren’t 18 year-old Eastern European models walking their first fashion week, pulling off this beauty equation calls for a few nimble concealer moves. Though not if you’re singer/songwriter, Jillian Banks, who tuned up to our shoot the day after an international flight looking unfairly clear-skinned and glowing. With her sophomore album The Altar already taking up residence on our getting-ready playlist, we asked the American artist to work this season’s MVP beauty trends, all set to add some sparkle to your next night-out. Get lit.

BankswinkThe SHIMMER Lip
After sparking instant obsession at Versace Couture AW16, glitter pouts popped up at Fendi and DKNY SS17. The trick to making them look undone and cool (and less Halloween inspiration board) is to keep the rest of your face effortless. Think sheer coverage, groomed brows and a hint of colour on your cheek.

 BanksearringThe Graphic glitter eye
In a Twiggy meets Bowie make-up moment, amp-up your classic black eyeliner with a little glitter. Flick it into your inner corners for a subtle sparkle or map out shimmer-spiked cat’s eye that will catch the light all night.

The Green Nail
For shimmer rookies, an iridescent nail polish offers an entry-level path into the trend. Fans of neutral tones will love classic metallic hues in gold and silver, which won’t meddle with your outfit. Or for those more daring, we can’t stop layering on Chanel’s new, set-for-cult-status nail shade, Emeraude. The rich, shimmer-spiked forest green flatters every skin tone and will have all upcoming manicures covered, from afternoon drinks in October right through to NYE.

The Altar is available September 30.
