Zimmermann SS17

What’s undoubtedly the most successful Aussie fashion label on a global scale, Zimmermann, unveiled its latest collection Stranded just days ago during New York Fashion Week in a mesmerising whirl of feminine textures in pastels for a Victorian-era-meets-cool girl vibe.

Before the show, I chatted backstage with long time Zimmermann make-up director Jodie Boland, who’s also the talent behind the make-up looks gracing the brand’s worldwide campaigns.

Borland told me she was inspired by the collection’s lace, tulle and flowing fabric textures to come up with a sultry 80s rock chick beauty look that was all about a charcoal under-eyeliner teamed with a silver metallic lid, lightly pressed and smudged for an added edge.

The models’ skin was left to a ‘minimal-to-no-makeup’ makeup feel that complemented the highly expressive clothes. Boland added a hint of a pink blush softly across cheeks, then neutral lipstick was pressed into lips for a stained finish. One of my favourite finishing touches was the highlight pressed into the centre of the lips and the smallest crazy silver shadow used to highlight the inner eye.

Hair director Esther Langham kept the look clean and simple opting for straight hair with a side part. Thickening spray was used to build up the volume in the roots before blowdrying smooth and using a flat iron to finish. Once this process was complete, the team of hair stylists ran a hair oil through the ends of models’ locks to give them shine under the runway lights.

The beauty look was so stunning and ideal for Australian women, far from New York’s runways, I passed my Canon PowerShot G7 X camera to some of the models to capture some selfies of their own make-up (the flip screen’s ideal for pro-look selfies, which can be loaded straight to social media if you have WIFI).

Once again Zimmermann has produced an eclectic collection of magical pieces we’ll will be wishing we owned next Summer, but for now the show’s universally flattering beauty looks are something everyone can embrace.
