We’re not exactly sure the inspiration behind Bella Hadid’s hair at the 2019 CFDA Awards, but we’re betting Grease’s Sandy was in the mix of muses. Arriving on the red carpet with a fountain of tight curls, the wiry ‘do recalled a young Olivia Newton-John in the 1978 classic following her sexed-up, leather-clad transformation at the school fair.

Morphing into a kind of modern day Sandy, tiny coils fell en masse around Bella’s bare shoulders and the sequinned halter-neck of her Michael Kors gown (which was also quite the show-stopper). But unlike Sandy’s raunchy whorls, Bella opted for a slightly more streamlined look. Gelled back and fastened into a kind of high ponytail, the coils sprouted with the same kind of volume and va-va-voom Netwton-John’s did in the final scene of the iconic musical but were slicked back at the crown.

For Bella, who’s no stranger to mighty hair transformations (her recent plight back to bangs territory particularly noteworthy), it’s just another day at the office (or hairdresser).

A modern spin on a retro classic (and much-loved beauty look), Bella Hadid’s CFDA coif is proof this kind of hair shouldn’t be confined to dress-up parties. Sexy, buoyant and brilliant? Tell me about it, stud.
