The rituals of oral hygiene are a nightly rite of passage for all; gargling and expelling minty mouthwash, brushing fastidiously, flossing away the day’s culinary delights, but our brushing habits are often defined by banal, generic dental products.

This typical troupe isn’t always the most aesthetically pleasing, and whilst their efficacy may be emphatic, they simply do not sit pretty on our bathroom vanities and the like. There is, however, a new, niche army of dental soldiers, ready to go into battle in the name of both hygiene and aesthetic. Spiked with spices such as anise, clove bud and cinnamon, loaded with antibacterial and brightening properties and presented most beautifully, your basin and your smile will always look its best.

Here, our favourite dental hygiene products that are both efficacious and sublimely elegant. We’ll brush (and gargle) to that.

AESOP MOUTHWASH
This tastes as one might expect Aesop to taste; that deeply esoteric Aesop scent captured and bottled, ready to be gargled. A spicy accord of clove bud and anise, spiked with crisp mint and liquorice, this alcohol-free concoction is non-disruptive to the natural balance of the mouth and breath-freshening. Souse your mouth and enliven your palette with some Aesop magic.

FLORIS LONDON ROSE MOUTHWASH
Rich in history, Rose Mouthwash dates back to the beginnings of Floris, a time when a range of toothbrushes and tooth powders were also sold including a toothpaste from 1850 called Dragon Roots (very chic, indeed). Rose, in its many incarnations, is a well-known salve for a myriad of ailments, bad breath being one of them. Pure rosewater is used to obtain the natural rose flavour for this concentrated mouthwash, which is both gender neutral and beautifully portrayed in a gilded flacon with that unmistakably pink colour, of course redolent of a rose. Add a few drops to a small glass of water, swish and swirl, and everything will come up roses.

BULY 1803 TOOTHPASTE
To truly experience the Buly 1803 universe, a trip to Paris is in order. However, if you’re not quite lucky enough to peruse the Buly boutique in Le Marais or the Left Bank, this toothpaste will give you a hint (or squeeze) of the Buly fairytale. Despite not wanting to ruin its artful tube (it’s a tough feat, we know), the magic really happens inside. Enhanced with thermal water from Castéra-Verduzan in the Gers region (the first spa town in France to have been accredited by the health department for treating ailments), the three toothpastes in the Buly collective each work with a similar directive; to soothe your throat and mouth aches, as well as care for your teeth. Choose from Mint, Coriander and Cucumber, Apple of Montauban or Orange, Ginger and Clove for a superb clean, every time.
