Serena Williams made history at Wimbledon on Saturday, winning her 22nd Grand Slam title to tie with record holder Steffi Graf, the most in the Open Era of professional tennis.

Watching Williams win the women’s singles final against Germany’s Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 was Beyonce and Jay-Z, among other A-list stars.

The couple, who are in the UK and Europe for Beyonce’s Formation World Tour dates, watched intensely throughout the match that culminated in Serena’s victory, clapping and cheering during her wins and looking tense at shaky moments.

Bey and Jay wouldn’t have looked out of place on the court themselves, with the Freedom singer in a white, high-necked lace dress and her husband also in white.

Footage of the moment Serena won the game shows Bey having a little bit of a delayed reaction, which might reveal she’s not a die-hard tennis fan and wasn’t completely following the game. Which is totally fine – it’s the support that counts.

The singer and the tennis star clearly have a close relationship, after Serena appeared by way of twerking in the video for Bey’s song Sorry, which was part of her visual album Lemonade.

Other celebrities there to watch the match included Natalie Portman, Rashida Jones and Games Of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, who’s clearly enjoying the break between filming the HBO hit so she can experiment with blue hair.

Serena’s Saturday win wasn’t the star player’s first history-making moment at this year’s tournament – she also posted what’s believed to be the first ever appearance of the Duchess of Cambridge on Snapchat

Beyonce and Jay Z appearance at the English tennis tournament comes after they both spoke out following the tragic deaths of black American men at the hands of police in recent days. Beyonce posted a powerful letter imploring police to “stop killing us”, and the rapper released new song Spiritual, which addresses police brutality and the struggle of African Americans.
