What we’re seeing at the moment is a real movement; one giant leap for womankind. People of every gender, every age and every profession are coming forward with their own stories (and even confessions) of sexual misconduct grouped by the #MeToo hashtag and its very empowering to watch. Blake Lively who is currently on the promotional trail for her new film All I See Is You is the latest to weigh in on the conversation.

“I don’t think it’s a film-industry-specific story. I think that we have a lot to be talking about as a world, as a country,” Lively began. “What has happened in this past year since the election is that women have really stood up for themselves a lot more – I think we realise how much further we have to go than we thought we did.”

“We were a bit like, ‘Yeah, there’s still far to go but we’ve been on cruise control, things are going well’ and then suddenly we were just like stabbed through the heart when a certain video came out talking about ‘moving on women like a bitch’ or ‘grab women by the pussy’, I think that’s a big problem. It’s great that we’re focusing on this one story but we’ve got a lot of work to do…When women say, ‘Hey, this makes me feel uncomfortable,’ do something about it. Don’t wait until they say, ‘OK well I’m going to the legal department. It’s just time for people to listen.”

While GRAZIA supports every woman who barracks for the plight of another, and given Lively’s influential soapbox, we applaud her for speaking out, but we couldn’t help but notice the internet become aflutter with reminders that the actress indeed supports director Woody Allen. And some of you have been wildly vocal about the contradictions in messaging here.

Starring in Allen’s film Café Society just last year, Lively went on the record to address accusations of sexual abuse against the director. “It’s very dangerous to factor in things you don’t know anything about. I could [only] know my experience. And my experience with Woody is he’s empowering to women,” Lively said at the time.
