Blake Lively has been publicly applauded for her “ability” to return to her slim frame, jumping into a bikini for a movie role just eight months after becoming a first-time mum. On the promotional trail for her new movie The Shallows, in Australian cinemas on August 18, Lively says the focus people put on women springing back into shape post-baby is “unfair”.

“I think a woman’s body after having a baby is pretty amazing,” she said to Sunrise Australia. “You don’t have to be Victoria Secret-ready right away. You’ve just done this incredible miracle that life that to offer. You gave birth to a human being. I would really like that to be celebrated.”

Pregnant again with her second child to husband Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s body has sadly has been the primary subject journalists have asked the actress about during The Shallows international junket. And while it is interesting to know how she slimmed down to wear the orange bikini, perhaps more interesting is Lively’s acclaimed performance. American audiences and critics alike have raved about the 28-year-old who very much has held her own in a film with just three cast members. The most fitting review perhaps came from The UK’s The Guardian, where journalist Jordan Hoffman describes the release as one with a “lean script, cleaver construction and arresting cinematography” and yet, “this crass-on-paper bikini movie turns out to be a minor masterpiece.”
