On Monday, we saw Blake Lively floating in Burberry at the 2016 Met Gala. Today, she’s being tormented by a great white shark in her new film The Shallows, in Australian cinemas on August 18.

As reported, the initial trailer to the film was underwhelming and a certain departure from Serena Van Der Woodsen in Gossip Girl and Adaline Bowman in The Age Of Adaline. With a minimalist cast of three, the plotline revolves around Nancy (Lively), a surfer who becomes stranded on a small rocky island, 200 yards from shore, in Australia, with a shark circulating.

Initial reviews of the taut thriller’s trailer snubbed the film as a poor choice for Lively. In the second trailer, however, we learn a little bit more about Nancy’s back story, her relationship with her sister, her mother’s passing and her reasoning for visiting the island she and her friends ironically dub “paradise”.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop) and from a script by Anthony Jaswinski, we’re weren’t tipping this to be an award-winner but as it was shot 200km off the New South Wales east coast, this trailer sells it as “worth a popcorn date”.

The Shallows is in cinemas August 18.
