When two of Hollywood’s biggest heavyweight make-up artists give their seal of approval on a trend, you know it’s worth trying. This week alone, both Patrick Ta and Rachel Goodwin lined two of their A-list clients in different shades of blue. Working with Olivia Munn, Ta nudged navy blue eyeliner along her lower lash line, smudging  and smoking it out to elongate her eyes. Meanwhile Godwin worked with Emma Stone’s for the premier of her latest film, La La Land. Eschewing go-to neutral tones for a two-toned cats eye in turquoise blue. The common denominator in the actresses’s statement cobalt eyes? Gold eye shadow, which was nudged into Munn’s inner corners and below Stone’s eyes, works double time to off-set the cool blue tones and balance the both bright shades.

Elsewhere in the It-girl atmosphere the moody blue appreciation continued. Attending the New York premier of her new film, Allied, Marion Cotillard lined her eyes in marine blue and Joan Smalls opted for a bright cerulean waterline on Instagram. A safe but still statement-making alternative to classic black or brown eyeliner, cobalt pops off every skin tone, while navy blue pops off every eye colour. And bonus points? Nudged into your lash-line, blue tones instantly make the whites of your eyes appear whiter, and who wouldn’t want that? Particularly as we head towards a season of festivity (read: sleep deprivation.)
