A cloud has hung over Brad Pitt since September when it was revealed he was being investigated by the FBI following an incident on a private jet, but it’s just been announced that the investigation into the actor has been dropped.

“In response to allegations made following a flight… carrying Mr Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation,” a statement read.

“No charges have been filed in this matter.”

The lack of detail regarding the child abuse allegations left the public to speculate about what may have transpired between Pitt, who split from Angelina Jolie in September after 12 years together, and one or more of his six children. Even though his name has now been cleared, it’s possible his personal brand could be tarnished from the allegations for some time.

However, he wouldn’t be the first Hollywood star to move on from a scandal: Robert Downey Jr and Alec Baldwin are just a couple of examples of actors whose personal lives played out in an unfavourable light in public and went on to hit career highs. And with the celebrity news cycle moving faster than ever, a star can move on from bad press in months rather than years – Johnny Depp is getting good reviews for his role in Fantastic Beasts despite the disturbing details that emerged during his ugly divorce from Amber Heard earlier this year.

Brad and Angelina look set to begin an ugly court battle over the custody of their six children. She has requested sole custody with only visitation rights for Brad, while he submitted documents last month seeking joint custody with the actress.

Pitt is currently on the promotional trail for Allied, in which he co-stars with French actress Marion Cotillard, who Pitt was rumoured to have had an affair with during filming, however both parties have strongly denied the claims.
