Brie Larson is soon to be back on the big screen in The Glass Castle, an upcoming drama for which the trailer dropped today.

In her first major role since Kong: Skull Island, the Oscar-winner plays Jeannette Walls, a woman living in New York City who’s still grappling with the unconventional childhood she endured with her parents (Naomi Watts and Woody Harrelson).

Living an independent life in Manhattan, Jeannette’s world is turned upside down when her parents move to the city, and resentment from her poor, constantly nomadic years as a child with her eccentric, alcoholic father bubble to the surface.

The Glass Castle is based on the 2005 memoir of the same name by Jeannette Walls, who documented her life from dysfunctional childhood to successful journalist.

Larson was Walls’ first choice for who she wanted to play her in the film, she told People.

“She understands how to be strong and vulnerable at the same time, how you can fight and be scared at the same time.”

The Glass Castle is due for release in the US in August, with an Australian premiere date yet to be announced.
