Britney Spears is seeking treatment for her mental health, according to reports.

Spears has checked into a mental health facility for 30 days as she is said to be struggling to cope with her father’s serious illness, multiple publications say.

Hours after the 37-year-old shared an inspirational post on Instagram with the message “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time’” a source told People Spears decided to ask for help.

“Britney just needed to focus on herself,”  a source close to the star said.

We all need to take time for a little “me time.” 🙂

“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot.”

In January, Britney decided to post-pone a planned residency in Las Vegas in order to look after her father, who was unwell following surgeries to correct issues with his colon and intestines.

“It’s important to always put your family first,” she wrote on Instagram after announcing the Domination show was being post-poned. “I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time.”

In 2007, Britney was admitted to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre amid her break-up and custody battle with Kevin Federline, who she shares two children with.

It’s great to see someone in the public eye pro-actively taking care of their mental health, setting a positive example for others.
