Britney Spears’ career as a performer could be over for good, her manager says.

After a recent 30-day stay in a mental health facility, Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph has revealed that what was meant to be a short break from her Las Vegas residency – and performing in general – could be prolonged and even permanent.

“As the person who guides her career, based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis, it’s clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again,” Rudolph told TMZ.

Rudolph said a “perfect storm” of events, including medication that stopped working and her father’s chronic illness, had led to the 37-year-old’s sudden downfall.

“She clearly doesn’t want to perform now …[and] I don’t want her to work again ‘till she’s ready, physically, mentally and passionately,” he said.

“If that time never comes again, it will never come again … and, if she ever does want to work again, I’m here to tell her if it’s a good idea or a bad idea.”

It comes a week after Britney’s mother said her daughter was in “dire straights”.

According to TMZ, Lynne is set to appear in court to challenge Britney’s father, Jamie, who has sole “conservatorship” – a US concept similar to guardianship – over Britney.

Apparently Lynne wants more access to information about Britney’s medical history.

A source said, “Britney is making bad decisions and it’s a problem.”

After she left the mental health facility last month, Britney posted a video on Instagram reassuring concerned fans she was just taking time to rest.

“My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment,” she said.

Here’s hoping.
