Mark August 2016 in the history books as the month Britney Spears makes her comeback, reclaims her throne as the princess of pop and sticks around in Billboard and Apple Music playlists for good. In the early morning hours of this simple day, the 34-year-old singer announced she would be performing at the 2016 MTV VMA’S through a minute-long preview video that has us clamouring in anticipation. This year’s iconic VMA’S, set to be held in Madison Square Garden airs the 28th of August – just two days after the release of Spears’ new album Glory and with 12 new tracks, it’s anyone’s guess what this enigmatic performance will include.

As a sultry Spears talks about making history on the stage, a yellow snake glides across the screen, less than subtly alluding to her iconic Slave 4 U 2001 VMA performance 15 years ago.

But who could forget her last go at a comeback? Post a very public mental breakdown, Spears appeared robotic and “out of it”. It wasn’t so much hard to watch as it was sad.

So will her comeback excite as much as the preview has? Her last big performance at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, where she performed a megamix of her best hits left fans divided, with some dissing the seemingly lip-synced performance and others praising the intricate and energetic dance.

Until then, we’ll also patiently wait for the release of the second single off her new album Do You Wanna Come Over scheduled to drop either tonight or early tomorrow morning. To tide you over, here’s Spears’ music video for her latest song Make Me… ft. G-Eazy below.

We’re excited. We’re scared. We’re confused. We’re ready.
