There aren’t many opportunities a modern lady has in life to wear a billowing gown, so if you’re going to do it, might as well be in a setting as magical as this Versaille-esque garden.

Fairy godmother to all soon-to-be and wannabe brides, Vera Wang, knows a thing or two about creating magic. Her latest bridal film showcasing a dozen of her Spring 2017 collection wedding dresses – complete with spectacular accessories and some particularly edgy headpieces and hair styling – is nothing short of spectacular, if not for the dresses, then the setting alone.

The mini-movie created around the Désir à l’Anglaise (Desire in English) collection, which Wang says celebrates “the profound restraint of the British monarchy, the grandeur of English aristocracy and the drama of real ball gowns within the context of today,” was on show yesterday for 114 lucky VIP and media invitees hosted at a suitably aristocratic bespoke high tea in Sydney’s Intercontinental Hotel.

Models at the luncheon wore princess-like dresses featuring modern silhouettes with vintage touches like corsetry and exquisite hand-beaded detail, which were flown in from the Vera Wang flagship showroom in New York. Australian brides might not have a British castle or French palace to snap their wedding photos in, but we can certainly have a piece of this princess gown magic.
