It started way back last spring, that surreptitious creep upwards, but in such a subtle warm weather setting we didn’t fully take notice. Now that winter’s chill’s set in, the shock of cool wind on bare legs makes the biggest skirt shape news of the season blatant: minis are back with a bang.
Given the prominence of conveniently wearable midi- and maxi-skirts over recent seasons, it’s about time you gave your pins their share of the limelight again. Think ’70s A-line silhouettes rather than stretchy ’90s lycra, with button down detailing and pockets a style plus.
Leggy model-celebs like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski are partially to credit (or blame, depending on your perspective) for railroading the return of this hemline. But then why wouldn’t you reach for the sky if you were walking on what their mammas gave them? Of course, Alexa Chung and Kate Moss have been at it for years, but then they’ve always been ahead of the trend A-game.
Wear with a roll-neck knit and flat ankle boots for winter daytimes, or stiletto sandals and a camisole and double-breasted blazer for evening if you dare.
