Like most once-were-uncool pieces of 90s pop culture right now, the legend that is Céline Dion has turned on its head to become the latest in a line of á la mode ironic trends. The extra-ness that saw her dip from the radar not long after Jack and Rose watched the Titanic sink in 1997 is now back as a high end (yet undeniably tongue-in-cheek) fashion enigma.
Dion, 50, has made waves (and lols) over the last few years as she has reinvigorated her career. She has reached what is definitely peak Céline Dion during magazine shoots, fashion week front rows, public appearances and her stage shows hamming it up in wild ensembles, crazy accessories and outrageous poses.
Touching down in Sydney yesterday the mega star, who began her international career success with The Power of Love back in 1994, took to the stage in Sydney last night belting out her hits as well as a rendition of John Farnham’s iconic You’re The Voice (see below).
While her performances never fail to impress, her style has created a now much-followed glamorous alter ego. Clearly a lover of style-most-extravagant, Dion’s mode extraordinaire is both unlikely heroic and (no doubt intentionally) meme-fodder ripe for the picking.
