After praising Chris Evans’s ex-boyfriend etiquette last week – one that consists of protecting a love that once was by hugging his ex’s in the street – Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam has taken a different approach, describing his first marriage as “terrible”.

The now-37-year-old star met his first wife Katharine Towne during an audition for Dawson’s Creek when he was 18-years-old. Young and a little bit crazy, the pair married just three weeks later at the Silver Bell Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. “I’d known the girl for three weeks and we’d fallen madly in love,” Hunnam recently said. “We thought, ‘What if we never see each other again? Let’s get married and we’ll have to see each other again even if it’s just to get divorced.’”

“But I couldn’t even get a drink!” he continued. “So I didn’t think I was going to actually be able to get married! I thought it was just a lark! But we sort of psyched ourselves into it and then at two o’clock in the morning, we ended up getting married.”

Describing the three-year marriage as “terrible, painful,” and “expensive” (Ouch! Sorry if you’re reading, Towne!), Hunnam has been with jewellery designer Morgana McNelis since 2005. “This is a girl I love very much and have spent the last eleven years of my life with and hope to spend the next sixty years,” he recently wrote on Facebook. “She has been my loyal and supportive partner long before I had any success or money.”

Over to you the jury: Would you bag an ex publicly?
