Australian label C/MEO Collective is no stranger to having celebrity royalty as fans – Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have pieces stashed in their we-wish closets – and now its chalked up its first A-list collaboration. Saint Heron, a brand owned by Solange Knowles’ connected to a website of the same name, has teamed up with C/MEO to create a limited edition capsule collection. Knowles launched the online platform in 2013 to support innovation in culture, music and fashion.

Not surprisingly, the range is called C/MEO for Saint Heron, with just a handful of carefully planned, easy-wear pieces (eight in total) priced $265 (US$190) upwards. The range is limited to boost the exclusivity factor, with some styles having sold out within days of hitting the site last week. We spoke to C/MEO Collective’s head designer Siham Elmawey about the “dream come true” collaboration with Knowles’ and her team.

HOW Did the collab happen? It was like a late Christmas present when we received the email in January. Saint Heron loved the C/MEO Collective design aesthetic, quality and price point so they organically approached us about starting a collaborative relationship re-working existing silhouettes and shapes whilst introducing new bold colour ways and an exclusive print. I am personally a huge fan of Solange and Saint Heron so it was so exciting to know that someone so influential to me was also a fan of our designs.

HOW INVOLVED WAS SOLANGE IN THE DESIGN PROCESS? Solange is the founder and creative director of Saint Heron, which is why it’s such a successful and inspiring multimedia platform. [She] had a strong vision, so the powerhouse team behind Saint Heron Store worked collectively with my team to produce a powerful, exciting range true to our design aesthetic and Saint Heron’s ethos. [Our two brands] are inspired by similar stories and so this collection offers an intelligent mix of the best of each.

They’re LA-BASED and You’re IN Oz. Did distance make things hard? Working with the Saint Heron team was a dream, so [it felt like] no restrictions. It was actually a very quick and smooth process. [Thanks to] the beauty of technology and our friend Skype, we weren’t concerned with the geographical difference. The Saint Heron team chose their favourite C/MEO Collective designs and from there we put together presentations of colour palettes, exclusive prints and new labelling for their approval. It was a really big moment for the team when they placed their order.

It’s been reported solange specifically requested the range’s colourways It certainly is a unique colour palette. You will notice there is specifically no black and white in the collection – the focus is on bold, exciting colours… inspired directly by Saint Heron’s ethos ‘to empower and inspire’. The Blush Pink has been the key colour and the most popular. In fact, the Take Care Bustier has already sold out. Personally, my favourite piece is the Golden Age Flares.

This capsule has almost sold out. Will there be similar pieces for C/Meo soon? We’re about to begin the design process, keep your eyes on this space. Very exciting things to come…
