The nominations for the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards – historically a good predictor of Oscar winners – have been announced.

The Favourite dominates the list racking up 14 nominations – the same amount as last year’s Oscar winner The Shape Of Water.

The Favourite, best described as a period film meets a dark comedy, stars Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Olivia Colman and Nicholas Hoult (Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn also has a role).

Black Panther also scored highly, earning 12 nominations, while First Man, the Neil Armstrong biopic starring Ryan Gosling, got 10, including Best Actor for Gosling.

Gosling failed to earn a Golden Globe nomination last week, so the Critic’s Choice acknowledgment has put him back in the 2019 Academy Awards race.

Winners will be revealed at the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards gala on Sunday, January 13.
