Dakota Johnson has just turned 30. She celebrated just like any other 30-year-old would, with her extremely famous boyfriend, his extremely famous ex, and a bunch of other people, both extremely famous and mere mortals.
She wore a plunging white suit — so hot right now, just ask Rihanna and JLo — and celebrated with quite the entourage in a vacant parking lot in Malibu. Martin and his ex showcased their conscious uncoupling prowess as they hung out and chatted, and other celebs including Kate Hudson, Miley Cyrus and Robert Downey Jr were all there to wish Johnson well.
There was a silent disco, as well as a real live musical performances on a stage.
Arches were fashioned out of white balloons, there was a chic Airsteam trailer bar, a Van Leewen ice cream truck, and Johnson’s cake came out in the form of her Yorkshire Terrier dog, Zeppelin.
Best known for playing Anastasia Steele in the 50 Shades films, Johnson keeps a relatively low profile in her private life, and isn’t huge on social media. Along with her busy film career (she’s already been in three movies this year, alongside Armie Hammer, Shia LaBeouf and Casey Affleck), she’s also been flexing her activist muscle. Beau Martin is the music curator of Global Citizen festival and Johnson recently took to the stage in Central Park, New York to talk about The Left Ear project. A year ago, Johnson called for survivors of sexual violence to call and tell their stories. She’s turned that content into a podcast called The Left Ear, to “create a safe and compassionate conversation around sexual violence, and to bring awareness to the fact that we live in a time where gender-based violence affects over 35% of women around the world.”
Gwynnie’s a fan, too, posting a sweet happy birthday message to Dakota on Instagram.
One big happy family, indeed.
