Nineteen years ago, after Victoria Beckham had shimmied out of her Vera Wang wedding dress and removed the literal crown from her head, she and her then-new husband, football star David Beckham, wore head-to-toe purple for their reception. Little Brooklyn was even in a purple suit and matching cowboy hat.

While the public’s interest in the star couple was insatiable, critics said the relationship would never last. In 2004, the marriage was rocked by allegations David had had an affair with his assistant Rebecca Loos, claims which were denied by the footballer. Recently, the couple were forced to defend their relationship in light of new reports a divorce was imminent. The social media speculation was labelled “nonsense” and “a crock of s**t”.

To cement their defence and celebrate one year off the big double decade, David and his designer wife cracked open a AUD$14 000 bottle of wine over a dinner in Paris. “Special wine for a special day” Victoria quipped on her Instagram stories. “19 Years WOW, David wrote on his Instagram. “This time 19 years ago I was dressed from head to toe in purple …Happy anniversary to the most amazing wife & mummy …Love You x”.

The couple’s children, Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and Harper, six, bought their parents flowers and balloons and the family spent the day bean bag racing at Harper’s school sports day.
