As the transeasonal ritual of spring cleaning your closet rears its ugly (yet necessary) head, how often do you peer into your wardrobe, look back on last season’s impulse purchases with mild horror and think with exasperation, “why the heck did I buy this?”

We all know the style mantra that quality always beats quantity – classic pieces transcend seasons and outpace trends – but we so rarely live by it. To help you cultivate your own lean closet movement (because, real talk, sometimes it’s impossible to resist a ridiculous DHL statement tee) faithful wardrobe essentialist brand bassike has launched its first premium capsule collection.

Co-founder Deborah Sams says the collection was created with transeasonal wearability in mind (read: classic shapes and year-round layering capabilities) in the kind of lustrous fabrications that will have people who brush past pausing to caress you like a cat while exclaiming how luxe you feel.

“The premise of the bassike premium range is around necessary wardrobe items,” says Sams. “We are working with the most premium wool, cashmere and cotton fabrications sourced from France, England and Italy with garments immaculately constructed here in Australia. We also wanted our clients to feel comfortable buying into a higher price-pointed category, so we intentionally designed timeless and classic styles. Pieces that will last forever.”

Highlights include a wool, silk-lined backless vest-dress that is the epitome of louche elegance, an always-needed tuxedo jacket and one of the most perfect white shirts we’ve ever laid eyes. At the moment, the bassike premium collection is available exclusively at bassike stores in Sydney (Paddington, Strand Arcade), Melbourne (Hawksburn, Melbourne City) and in California (Venice).
