Australian supermodel Elle MacPherson, also widely known as The Body, has appeared on British talk-show This Morning where she has (rather aptly) shared her tips for prepping a summer body. Our European friends are of course heading into warmer months and with that comes an interest in toning up a little for that new Solid And Striped bikini.
But it was said advice that has coursed some controversy. “Summer’s coming up, and I too am getting ready for my summer body,” Macpherson said. “I know that sounds really corny, but we all think about that.”
When it comes to losing weight and shedding a couple of kilos prior to hitting the beach, the 54-year-old model said likes to drink protein-infused shakes. She also said if she’s had a big breakfast or lunch, she’ll skip dinner and just have one of these shakes. “Sometimes I’ll use it as a meal replacement in the evenings,” she said. “If I’ve had a really strong breakfast or a strong lunch I can get away with having a protein shake for dinner.”
It was as though she instantly caught herself on her own poor advice. She clarified and said such a method should only be used short-term. “For a short period of time obviously, it’s not for an extended period,” she continued. “But if it’s leading up to summer and you want to drop a few pounds that’s the way I do it and I find it really, really helpful.”
But the Twitterverse was already alight with people pointing out the model shouldn’t be encouraging anybody to skip meals. Here were just some of the outraged responses:
#ElleMacPherson why does a woman have to lose weight to look good in a swimsuit? Lovely body shaming moment there by putting pressure on women to worry about their appearance!
