Rihanna, Chrissy Teigan and Olivia Palermo all spotted it a while ago now. So did home-grown style stars Miranda Kerr, Teresa Palmer, Lara Worthington, Jessica Gomes and Jodi Anasta. What did they garner, exactly? That little Aussie label Ellery has the fashion megastar X-Factor.

In another step toward achieving world domination – and further proof that Antipodean designers can play and win the big stakes game in the overseas arena – the brand possibly most responsible for driving last season’s ginormous sleeves trend has been invited into the most exclusive club in the fashion business: the Chambre Syndicale.

To say it’s a big deal being a fully-fledged membership of the Chambre Syndicale du Prêt à Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode (aka the governing body of French fashion) is quite the understatement. Ellery now joins the likes of Christian Dior, Givenchy and Chanel as a member, and Collette Dinnigan as one of the very few Aussie-born members in the union’s history.

The label, founded by Kym Ellery – who just happens to be a walking poster girl for her own wares – joins five others who’ve been ordained this week too: Courrèges, Yang Li, Maison Rabih KayrouzPaco Rabanne and Valentin Yudashkin.

She’s already a favourite in the celeb fan stakes, but what does membership to the cool kids club of Euro fashion get you? A guaranteed slot at Paris Fashion Week (the Chambre decides the dates and who shows), plus marketing and admin help and a whole lot of kudos. Let’s just hope Kym still comes home for our Aussie Fashion Week next year as well. Bravo!
