Ellie Kemper, star of Netflix’s ebullient and always endearing Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, is the latest star to put pen to paper (chequebook, that is) and sign up for the unenviable deadline that accompanies the release of one’s debut memoir.
Entertainment Weekly revealed today that Scriber has acquired the rights to publish Kemper’s debut biography, which is slated for a 2018 release. The as-yet untitled book will follow the tried and tested format of ‘stories and personal essays’ canvassing her childhood in St. Louis, her career in Hollywood and her success on television, notably on the American adaptation of The Office and in Paul Feig’s iconic comedy sensation, Bridesmaids.
In a statement, Scriber executive editor Shannon Welch commended Kemper for her “gifts as a writer. She’s brilliant, charming, relatable, unexpected, insightful, and hilarious. She couldn’t be better company on the page.”
Kemper joins a coterie of comedians and contemporaries turned memoirists, including Kimmy Schmidt showrunner Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Lena Dunham, former costar Mindy Kaling and Amy Schumer, whose debut biography The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo is due out August 12 in advance of her Australian standup tour.
