Her style
Emma Stone’s film serenaded the water-enclosed promenades of Venice just one week ago, then swept through Toronto overnight as a clear favourite for Oscars season. But not even Ryan Gosling could divert our attention away from the actress’ unrivalled wattage as she walked the La La Land premiere red carpet in a daffodil-coloured Chanel, direct from the house’s Cruise 16/17 collection.

She related to her role as a struggling actress
Speaking to Variety in Toronto, Stone admitted she knew exactly what her character was feeling when she moved from Arizona to Hollywood with her mum to give acting her best crack. “I definitely understood the feeling of moving to Los Angeles and having a dream to be an actor in films and to get to be a part of things that I loved and inspire people in some way,” she said. “It’s pretty insane that we’re talking about this movie and it’s something that I’m so proud and excited to be a part of, when that is the goal of the character, is to be a part of something like this.”
Stone and Gosling are the Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire for millenials
Venice dangled the wonderful on-screen and off-screen chemistry of Gosling and Stone. And, like their previous films (Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad), the formula proves a winner again in Toronto.

Natalie Portman will be Stone’s biggest Oscars rival
Overnight, Fox Searchlight purchased the U.S. Distribution tights to the Pablo Larrain film Jackie, starring Natalie Portman as John F. Kennedy’s wife in the four days post his assassination in 1963. If the winning distributor chose to release the film in 2016, Portman would likely go head-to-head with Stone for Best Actress at next year’s Academy Awards. And, overnight they chose to release the film stateside on December 9. Who will win from these two stellar performers is anybody’s guess.
