Suits actors Wendell Pierce and Meghan Markle shared some pretty special television screen moments. Pierce played Markle’s character, Rachel’s, father Robert. Often blunt and at times brash Robert was very protective of Rachel and tended to attempt to steer her life decisions back to a law degree (read: the straight and narrow).
But after seven seasons on set together, what did the pair say to one another in between takes for their final scene together? (Markle of course is moving to England to marry Prince Harry and take up life as an official member of the Royal family.)
“I had a really wonderful moment as we were coming to an end of her time on the show,” Pierce told Harry Connick Jr. on a recent episode of Harry. “It was just she and I in the room and I said, ‘I know your life is going to change but always know, no matter where you are, I will always be your loving fake father.’”
Pierce also admitted he knew about Markle’s developing relationship with her now-fiancé but was sure not to keep it a secret. “She met this nice guy and we always talked about him in code really. You know, ‘How you doing?’ ‘Oh, I’m going to London, coming from London, whatever.’”
Connick of course asked if Pierce would be attending the Royal wedding in May. The actor’s response: “I hope so.”
